Product Details

Anima is a digital triage system available for members of the public in England. It uses clinical content to get people to the most appropriate level of care for their symptoms. Anima does not give a diagnosis but advises users what to do next and in what timeframe based on their answers to the triage questions, and transmits this information to a healthcare provider.

Anima uses the Directory of Services (DoS) to refer patients to locally-commissioned services that best meet their needs.

Intended Use

  • Anima is a web-based ‘unassisted’ triage system intended to be used for patients who are 5 years old and above. It assesses the symptoms presented at the time of use of the online tool.

  • Symptoms can include injuries, illnesses, dental or mental health problems or any existing medical condition. Users are asked a series of questions in a specific order and then given the most appropriate clinical response based on the answers.

  • Life-threatening symptoms are assessed first, followed by less urgent symptoms requiring a less urgent response.

  • Use of the online tool is not intended for: children under 5 years old making treatment decisions following admission to hospital predicting the expected outcomes of patients being treated denying anyone care automatically removing someone from a high risk group
